From the Fresh Meat Archives:
The Self
Written and Directed by Luke McCaskill
Our identity is a labyrinthine construct of selves, but our world demands the authentic; in that labyrinth is our truest self. This piece examines the conflict between authenticity and profilicity.
Genesis of the Show:
I'm interested in analyzing and interpreting the current conflict generated by the transition from modernity to post-modernity. This piece is inspired from the conflict between moving from an age of authenticity, where we attempt to be our most genuine self, authentic in our actions and beliefs, to an age of profilicity, where we cultivate numerous profiles to be presented to others (including ourselves) dependent upon the context; all of which are genuinely "ourselves".
The show is an exploration of the idea: what happens if we attempt to move backwards into an age of authenticity by destroying our profiles? Who are we once we do that?
I don't know what the dominant ideology and philosophical foundations of the latter half of the 21st century will be, but I am interested in contributing to the conversation. I hope this piece can achieve that in some small way.
